Workers urged to get tested

Workers in the Sunshine West industrial precinct are being urged to come forward and get tested for COVID-19.

Acting chief health officer Ben Cowie said repeated strong water waste detections of the virus in the area means it is more likely than not, a staff member in the area has the virus.

He said the period of concern was between August 8 and 17 and wanted everyone to get tested whether they have symptoms or not.

“Possibly of greatest concern to us at the moment is the strong repeat detections identified and reported regularly in industrial precinct in Sunshine West,” he said.

“That is an area where nobody resides, but a lot of people work there.

“We’ve been working with business in that precinct in surrivalance testing the last few days and we haven’t detected any cases at this point.

“We’re essentially at the point where based on these strong repeat detections, it becomes more likely than not, that someone who works in this area does have the coronavirus infection and that is clearly of concern.”

Mr Cowie said there continued to be repeated detections in Ardeer, with the period of concern between August 11 and 16.

He also said there had been new detections in the Albion, Brayrbook, St Albans, Sunshine, Sunshine North, Sunshine West and Tottenham areas.

The period of concern in those locations is August 15 and 17.
