Woman arrested following fatal fire

A 26-year old woman was arrested in Tarneit on September 16 as part of an ongoing investigation into a fatal fire in Sydenham last year where two children died.

The woman was interviewed by police and subsequently charged with two counts of negligent manslaughter and one count of negligently causing serious injury.

The incident took place on September 8, 2024, with emergency services called to the Fergus Court property shortly after 9.30pm.

Firefighters entered the home and located a five-year-old girl, then three-year-old boy and a one-year-old girl.

All were treated immediately at the scene before being taken to hospital.

The two girls died in hospital three days later on September 11.

The woman is expected to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 17.

The investigation into the fire remains ongoing.
