Amy Nicholls had never considered entering a pageant, but a spur of the moment decision has taken her all the way to representing Victoria in the national finals of the Miss Galaxy competition.
Ms Nicholls will fly to Queensland in March for the finals and admits to feeling some nerves.
“I’m a little bit nervous, lots of people have experience and I have none, but it’s been lots of fun so far,“ she said.
A chance encounter on Facebook proved the catalyst to joining.
“I used to dance, but I’ve done nothing like this.
“Then I saw the application on Facebook and thought I’d put myself out there and see what happens.
“I really didn’t think I’d get this far.“
As part of the selection process Ms Nicholls had to do an interview with judges and share her journey, which predominantly consisted of charitable work, on social media.
She later received an email advising of her selection and has since had her sights set on nationals.
“At nationals there will be an interview section, a gown section, a swimsuit section and a photography section.
“You also get extra points for the amount of charity work you do and money you raise.“
Ms Nicholls has selected the Make A Wish Foundation as her charity of choice and is now planning out ways to make as much money as possible.
“I’ve decided on Make A Wish because it’s a foundation I really support,“ she said.
“Now it’s just a matter of working out the best way to raise some money for them.
“I’ll look to maybe hold a trivia night or a similar event.“
