Road maintenance works worth $600,000 were undertaken on a major section of the Western Freeway between Ravenhall and Derrimut to rebuild and reseal the pavement.
Approximately 30,000 vehicles use the Western Freeway each day with upgrade set to make it stronger and more reliable.
The first weekend of works were completed from Friday, May 20 to Monday, May 23 with the inbound lanes between Ballarat Road and Robinsons Road completed in Ravenhall.
The second weekend of works from June 3 to 6, dependant on weather, will see crews working on the outbound lanes of the Western Freeway between the Western Ring Road and Robinsons Road in Derrimut.
Roads and Road Safety Ben Carroll MP said the upgrades will make the roads safer for use.
“Maintenance is crucial in keeping our roads and arterials running smoothly and ensuring Victorians get where they need to go safely,” he said.
“The Western Freeway provides a vital connection for the community and these works will ensure it can continue to carry our growing road network well into the future.
“We are delivering these works over two weekends to try to minimise disruption as much as possible and we thank the community for their patience during this time.”
