St Albans will soon receive improved pathways and increased street lighting.
Brimbank council announced the $1.35 million project will go ahead after its bid for $250,000 in state government funding was approved.
The project, with the council contributing $1.1 million, will include upgrades to Princess and Percy streets and the laneway connecting them. A shared path from Percy Street to Stradbroke Drive will be included.
Mayor Margaret Giudice said the upgrades, which are supported by the St Albans Business Association and Victoria Police, would help create a safer environment.
“St Albans is a vibrant and welcoming community with much to offer – including the St Albans Community Centre and Bowery Theatre in Princess Street, which provides a focal point for this part of the centre,” Cr Giudice
said.
“Upgrades to pathways in Princess Street and the shared path from Percy Street to Stradbroke Drive will improve connections for people walking and cycling – making it easier to get around in St Albans.
“The new lighting will help to create a well-lit and inviting environment where people feel safe and confident getting around.”
Construction is expected to begin in mid-2018.
