Weekend rail works to cause train disruptions

Train passengers are facing a weekend of disruptions, with buses set to replace trains on lines across the rail network.

Power upgrades and essential maintenance will take place on 11 lines, including Craigieburn, Upfield, Sunbury, Werribee and Williamstown from Friday night through to the last trains on Sunday.

As part of the works, there will also be no city loop services.

Public Transport Victoria says the works will help improve signals and communications across the network, allowing bigger and better trains to run on the lines.

Here’s how your line will be affected:

  • Upfield: Buses replacing trains between Upfield and the city from 8.20pm on Friday.
  • Craigieburn: Buses replacing trains between Essendon and the city from midnight Saturday.
  • Sunbury: Buses replacing trains between Sunshine and the city from 11.30pm on Friday.
  • Werribee/Williamstown: Buses replacing trains between Newport/Williamstown and the city from 11.40pm on Friday.

Services will continue to operate directly to and from Flinders Street Station on the Mernda line.
