Fashion strengthens our cultural fabric

A Brimbank community group that empowers women with refugee and migrant backgrounds is making big strides in the fashion game.

Kontiki Cultural Women Empowerment member Francess Sesay (pictured) will host a fashion parade on March 12 to showcase traditional African fabric, as part of Cultural Diversity Week.

The 29-member group aims to address social problems faced by migrant women, providing free sewing, pattern design and cutting courses, while creative design students have had works exhibited at fashion shows across Brimbank over recent years.

Let’s Celebrate! is at RT Pollard Gardens, 1-4pm. Details: www.brimbank.vic.gov.au 9249 4000
