Victoria University’s St Albans fitness centre is throwing its doors open for a day of free activities and workouts.

Starting from 10am on Wednesday, October 11, the centre’s Carnival Day will include competitions and giveaways, stalls operated by local sporting clubs and access to personal trainers.

Victoria University Fitness Centre manager Samara Gallaher said the initiative was designed to help overcome a problematic misconception.

“A lot of people think the centre is only open to students of the university and we really want to emphasise that we’re here for everyone,” she said.

With a long list of activities planned, Ms Gallaher said the Carnival Day could be enjoyed by people of all fitness levels.

“We’ve got a master movers class for over 50s and blood pressure testing available in the morning, then in the afternoon we have bubble soccer and yoga for those game enough,” she said.

“It’s a day for people of all ages. Nobody is going to struggle to find an activity which suits their fitness level.”

Patrons can also tour the gym and design their own workout, with free access extended throughout business hours.

“Everything is free, so if people want to come in and try out the equipment on their own, that’s completely fine,” Ms Gallaher said.

“However, there will be personal trainers on standby to field questions and lend a helping hand throughout the day too.”
