A $99 million cardboard manufacturing and distribution factory has opened in Truganina, creating 85 jobs.

Visy officially launched its corrugated cardboard plant at the West Park Industrial Estate earlier this month.

Minister for Industry and Employment Ben Carroll and Visy co-owner Fiona Geminder toured the facility to meet workers and inspect the plant.

Mr Carroll said that cardboard produced at the plant would be manufactured from recycled paper and cardboard.

He said the government had provided support to secure the new plant for Truganina as part of a $130 million investment in the state’s manufacturing sector.

“We’re backing Visy’s massive expansion because it’ll boost our economy, create 85 new jobs and give work to former auto-workers,” he said.

Kororoit MP Marlene Kairouz said that Visy’s investment in the west was “a vote of confidence in our government’s support for manufacturing”.

“This massive $99 million factory is creating jobs for locals and cementing Victoria as a leader in manufacturing,” she said.
