Brimbank council is calling for feedback from the community about a proposed four-bin waste and recycling services model that is set to come to life in 2023-24.

The aim of the four-bin model will be to improve recycling and reduce landfill through having a new weekly food and garden organics (FOGO) collection, a new monthly glass recycling collection, a fortnightly collection of garbage and ongoing fortnightly recycling collection.

The new model is part of Victorian government waste reforms, which says all councils must move to a four-bin waste and recycling service.

Brimbank mayor Jasmine Nguyen said the feedback from the community was important so they new model could be implemented successfully.

“Waste collection is a significant service that almost all residents in Brimbank use,” Cr Nguyen said.

“It is important that we get feedback from the community on how the changes will affect you and what you need to better understand the changes.

“The proposed changes are part of council’s commitment to improving our recycling efforts and reducing landfill.

Cr Nguyen said the new model would benefit the environment as landfill would be reduced.

“Actions like placing food and green organics in a separate bin that is collected weekly could reduce up to 50 per cent of the contents of the average waste bin.

“We all have a role to play in increasing recycling and reducing landfill.

“Improving our recycling efforts is an important way for everyone to do their bit.”
