VicRoads has begun a study to address safety concerns on a notorious stretch of the Calder Freeway.
Last month a woman died when her car hit a wire rope fence on the freeway near the Green Gully Road exit.
The incident prompted concerns about the lack of an emergency lane near the exit.
VicRoads has since said it will work with police and the community on potential road safety improvements in the area.
VicRoads north west metro director Vince Punaro said the study will look at addressing safety concerns and improving driver experience.
“We’ve started a study to better understand the issues drivers and other road users experience while travelling along the Calder Freeway between the M80 Ring Road and Diggers Rest,” Mr Punaro said.
“We understand some drivers turning from Loddon Avenue into Green Gully Road experience delays, particularly during peak times.
“We’re closely monitoring this intersection and working with Brimbank council on potential improvements.”
The freeway has been subject to a number of attempts to improve safety in recent times. In May last year the council called on federal and state governments to make safety upgrades on the Calder Freeway and Calder Park Drive intersection a priority.
