A VicRoads’ study has finally earmarked Taylors Road as a six-lane arterial link between Keilor and Melton.
Taylors Road and Hume Drive have been cited by the Metropolitan Planning Authority (MPA) as the “principal east-west arterial connection” for two proposed housing developments at Plumpton.
The 2195-hectare residential developments will include 19,400 lots and cater for more than 50,000 people.
“We’ve identified that as a pretty important east-west connection,” VicRoads metro north-west regional director Vince Punaro told Star Weekly.
“It will be some time away and be driven by the level of development out there.”
But for the Delahey Action Group, the duplication needs to be done … “as a matter of urgency”.
A spokeswoman for Roads Minister Luke Donnellan said the Taylors Road corridor study “identifies a suitable future road alignment to connect Taylors Road from the Calder Freeway in Keilor to Melton”.
“As the function of this section of Taylors Road changes in line with increasing development it will be considered for declaration as an arterial road,” she said.
MPA chief executive Peter Seamer said Taylors Road would be “built to support new suburbs as a local road” by councils, either Melton or Brimbank. “Once it’s fully linked and working as a through road, it will be assessed for declaration as an arterial road, after which the state government becomes responsible,” he said.
