VicRoads’ new Sunshine office opened its doors to the public yesterday.
VicRoads executive director of registration and licensing Paul Santamaria said the new facility is a win for customers and staff.
“The Sunshine Regional Office and Customer Service Centre is a brand new, contemporary facility that aims to be environmentally sustainable while providing a comfortable and pleasant workplace,” he said.
“The new hub provides customers with a fresh new design and a focus on digital transactions.”
The closure of the former site at 499 Ballarat Road will mean an end to licence testing and vehicle checks in Sunshine.
VicRoads’ decision to cease those services in Sunshine has been met with a backlash from locals who will be forced go to neighbouring centres.
However Vicroads said it had almost completed the redirection of drive test appointments from Sunshine to centres at Melton, Broadmeadows, Werribee, Sunbury and Carlton and average waiting times remained the same for drive test appointments.
VicRoads said it would continue to explore options to offer specialist services to disadvantaged customers around the area.
An official launch will be held on Monday, March 5 to formally open the new facility.
