Unlicensed Sunshine West teenager says she took car for a drive because she was “bored”

A 14-year-old girl caught driving on her own has told police she took the car to visit friends because she was “bored”.

The Sunshine West teenager was pulled over along Princes Street in Carlton on Thursday morning about 12.40am.

Police said when they motioned for the girl to pull over, they were “disturbed” to find someone so young behind the wheel.

When interviewed by police, she told the officers she was bored while on school holidays and had taken the car to visit friends in Carlton.

Senior Constable Adam West said police returned the teen to her “less than impressed” family and intend to charge her on summons with unlicensed driving and other traffic offences.
