Two different designs are being considered as part of upgrades to Derrimut Street in Albion.

Brimbank council has released two proposed designs for the upgrades between Sydney and Adelaide streets.

The council is seeking feedback on the designs, with the new layouts to help improve pedestrian and cycling safety in the area.

The upgraded streetscape will improve safety and amenities for pedestrians and cyclists, reduce traffic in the area, and create a greener and quieter street for locals.

The proposed upgrades include landscaped kerb extensions, cycling lanes, a pocket park at the Lawson Street intersection.

Derrimut Street is an important local connection for pedestrians and cyclists travelling from Albion to Albion train station, and is part of the Albion Neighbourhood Plan and the Brimbank Cycling and Walking Strategy.

Brimbank mayor Jasmine Nguyen said it’s important that local streets are designed to meet the needs of the growing community.

“This is an opportunity to share your thoughts on enhancing the overall street appeal of Derrimut Street and improving connections to local public transport,” she said.

“Council is focused on keeping our communities safe and creating streets that are functional and inviting spaces for people – not just cars.

“We want to know which design you like, and we encourage people to share their feedback and help shape Derrimut Street for the future.”

Feedback closes on February 11.
