Two people in custody following dramatic arrest

Two people are in custody following a dramatic arrest in Airport West on Thursday morning.

The pair were arrested in a Louis Street carpark after three police cars were rammed by an allegedly stolen car shortly before noon.

The arrests came after police were called to a suspicious vehicle in the car park as part of Operation Hyperion.

A police officer was injured and three police cars damaged after the offenders continued to ram the police vehicles as officers moved in to make their arrests.

The man has been taken to hospital with minor injuries and the woman is assisting police with their inquiries.

A detective acting sergeant was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury.

The arrests come after a stolen four-wheel-drive and a stolen white van were used in smash-grab burglaries at Glenroy and Fawkner on Wednesday.

The four-wheel-drive and van were recovered by police in Fawkner and Deer Park.

It is also believed the pair were involved in a smash-grab burglary at a computer store in Millers Road in Altona North about 2am on Thursday morning.

Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
