Triple treat for Deer Park West

Deer Park West Primary has three sets of twins beginning prep this year. Gabriela, Mary, Olivia, Paolo, Christian and Jasmine have settled in to school life with ease

Deer Park West Primary School has welcomed the new school year with a school first.

Three sets of twins have begun prep at the school.

“We’ve never had three sets of twins in the one year before,” principal Senka King said.

“They’re not all identical sets, which makes things easier. It could’ve been a bit of a nightmare for the teachers.”

The twins make up a large intake of prep pupils this year, whom Ms King said were off to a flying start to school life.

“They’ve all settled in really well – I haven’t seen one of them cry,” she said.

Ms King credits a new integration model introduced last year for the easy transition.

“We’ve introduced an extended orientation, which involves parents and children coming in once a week for the entire final term for things like an informal storytime.

“It gives the students a chance to really get a handle on what school life is like before they start and the results speak for themselves, they’ve all hit the ground running.”

While prep can be a difficult time for pupils, Ms King said it can also be hard on parents.

“Sometimes it’s hard to let go, but by having this extended orientation period, parents get to know what we expect.”
