There will be children lurking in the bushes at Brimbank Park this Friday, searching for hidden treasure … and trying to break an Australian record.

Nature Play Week kicks off tomorrow and an attempt is being made to get as many people as possible together for giant bush treasure hunts at parks around Victoria.

Kids will search for hidden treasures in city and country playgrounds, identifying plants, animals, insects, feathers, nests, even clues of animal activity.

Nature Play Week is part of the Active April campaign encouraging Victorians to get into at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day over the month.

Parks Victoria team leader Natalie Brida says the hunt will appeal to anyone with a sense of adventure.

“We know that kids who spend time outdoors in nature get a whole range of physical and mental health benefits,” she says.

“What better way to do that than to enjoy fun in a park right on your doorstep.”

Meet out front of the visitor centre and café in Brimbank Park, Keilor Park Drive, Keilor East, at 10.30am on Friday, April 8.
