Peak hour trains ran late more often on the Sunbury line during January, but new data shows services improved overall in the past 12 months.
Public Transport Victoria released data last week that showed 98.9 per cent of Metro’s Sunbury services were on time during January, just off the 99 per cent average for the metropolitan network.
At the same time, 98.2 per cent of peak services ran on time, slightly below the city average.
In the 12 months to January, the Sunbury line had 91.1 per cent of services arrive on time, down 1.1 per cent on the 12-month average, and below the 93 per cent January average for all metro lines.
The comparisons were worse for peak times, with just 88.8 per cent of these services coming in on time, 2.3 per cent below the 12-month average and three
per cent down on January averages overall.
Metro spokesperson Marcus Williams said a number of disruptions had contributed to the Sunbury line’s punctuality issues, with Metro happy with overall performance.
“Three separate trespasser incidents that affected peak time services had the biggest impact,” he said. “Police requests, motor vehicle incidents, ill passengers and vandalism also caused delays.
“Over the last year, 92.2 per cent of all services on the Sunbury line have been punctual, slightly higher than the network average [92.1 per cent],” he said.
