Traffic delays after truck fire on E J Whitten Bridge

A truck fire on the EJ Whitten Bridge in Sunshine has caused significant traffic delays in both directions on the Western Ring Road.

A Metropolitan Fire Brigade spokesman said emergency services were called to attend a fire which started in the load of a semi-trailer carrying building products about 8.15am.

The fire was deemed under control and the truck was towed off the bridge about 9am.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the truck had been on its way to a landfill site not far from the Sunshine bridge.

Delays remain in both directions, a VicRoads spokeswoman said.

“Traffic is banked back up to the Tullamarine Freeway and it will take some time to clear,” she said.
