Brooklyn artist Geoffrey Ricardo’s exploration of the timber industry and Otway Ranges sawmills will be on show at the Lorne Sculpture Biennale.
The festival, which was originally scheduled for September but was postponed due to COVID-19, Lorne, includes work from selected, prominent sculpture artists.
The Biennale explores the deep connections to nature, history and community through sculpture, performance and conversations, all working to the Spirit of Place theme created by Artistic Director, Graeme Wilkie OAM.
Ricardo’s pieces will be on display at Precinct 1 and will celebrate the beauty of the forest and the timber it produced.
In addition to the sculpture event, there is a curated program of events that will run parallel to the Biennale, creating a hive of creative activity in Lorne over the period of the exhibition.
Named Sculpture Plus, the program will feature free and ticketed performances, workshops, nature walks, Indigenous education and other experiences around the township of Lorne.
Wilkie said they were delighted about the work that will be on display.
“March and April will be an exciting time in Lorne with the unveiling of these works, as well as our small sculpture exhibition, online gallery and the Sculpture Plus program.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming art lovers to our iconic town by the sea.”
The free event will run from March 12 to April 3.
