The Greening Taylors Lakes Branch of the Lions Club of Taylors Lakes held the launch of its Queen’s Jubilee Tree Planting project on Wednesday, December 7, at the Queen Victoria crescent reserve in Taylors Lakes.

The Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee program will run over three years across 2021-22 to 2023-24. These community-based tree planting events are being held across Australia to mark the Jubilee (70 years of service) of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, in 2022.

This program is providing around $15 million of grant funding to eligible groups and organisations for community-based tree planting events.

The objective of the program is to mark the occasion of the Queen’s Jubilee through community tree planting events across Australia, increasing community awareness and creating a legacy of tree plantings across the nation for Australians.

The program complements other initiatives occurring across the Commonwealth to mark The Queen’s Jubilee, such as the tree planting initiative in the United Kingdom which is inviting people to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.

The Greening Taylors Lakes Branch of the Lions Club of Taylors Lakes has successfully applied for a portion of the funding and has received $15,000. A spokesperson said, “It is our intention to plant as many as 500-600 trees at this site and possibly two other sites.

“We support the objectives of the program and recognise Her Majesty the Queen for her jubilee year, as well as honouring her memory of service to the Commonwealth.

“We also recognise the importance of green spaces within our suburb and understand the benefits of these such spaces to people’s recreation, mental health and physical well-being.”
