Saidin Salkic has leant his artistic hand to a group of aspiring art students.
The St Albans filmmaker and artist has spent the past few weeks teaching the students, who all have disabilities, tips for painting, drawing and general design principles while they produced art work for inclusion in a public exhibition held on Friday.
Salkic said it was “a pleasure” bringing the students’ artistic skills to life.
“In the society where people are constantly trying to achieve things, we often forget about this group of people with disabilities who in fact are absolutely brilliant individuals and it was a pleasure to awaken their own sense of achievement and success,” he said.
“It continues to be very important to keep their drive alive and to help them realise that it is possible for them to achieve things and be successful in life and in the community.”
The classes were a joint initiative of disability services for adults Scope and Mambourin, Duke Street House in Sunshine and the Sunshine branch of the Salvation Army.
