Victoria University is calling for people to show their appreciation for Western Health staff by buying them a coffee this month.

The university, who has had an ongoing partnership with Western Health, in its call out for people to say thank you, said the demands placed on Western Health frontline workers is exceptional and exhausting.

The university highlighted the work that had been done by Western Health staff including setting up one of the first mass vaccination clinics at Melbourne Showgrounds, while still delivering healthcare to more than one million residents in Melbourne’s west the past 18 months.

Western Health COVID vaccination program project director Lisa Smith said many of things being done across the state had been taken from what they were doing.

“As we were the first hospital to set up a mass vaccination hub, many other organisations came to us looking for inspiration. If you were to go to the other hubs, you would see that other sites are mostly a variation of what we have done. We are very proud of that.”

As well as encouraging people to say thank you with a cup of coffee, the university is looking to support workers in other ways this morning

That includes hosting a free lunch day for staff at the Melbourne Showgrounds and Melton vaccination hubs, providing access to VU Sport and Health Wellness programs and the Elevenses mindfulness program with Western Health staff and their families.
