A man who robbed a Braybrook TAB and held its attendant hostage has had his bid to appeal against his sentence refused in the Supreme Court.
Dwayne Lord was sentenced to seven years and six months jail for his role in two robberies, as well as trafficking drugs MDMA and methylamphetamine.
He was convicted of robbing a Mentone TAB on June 23, 2012, and a TAB in the Central West Plaza in Braybrook on October 7, 2012.
In the October robbery, Lord and an accomplice waited in the carpark outside the TAB until its lone employee closed the store and left the premises. The two men approached her disguised in blue overalls and face masks.
Threatening the employee at gun point, Lord ordered her to hand over the keys and the alarm code.
When he could not gain access to the building, he ordered her to let them inside.
The pair forced the employee to unlock the safe. While they waited for the 15-minute time delay on the lock they commenced stealing various amounts of money from other areas in the TAB.
Once the time delay expired, the pair stole about $76,000 before taking the CCTV hard drive and fleeing.
Lord argued that the sentence imposed was manifestly excessive and that not enough weight had been given to his plea of guilty or his prospects of rehabilitation.
Justices David Beach and Chris Maxwell refused his leave to appeal, noting his previous criminal record dating back to 1984 and his apparent lack of remorse for his crime.
