Getting your children in the pool this summer could save their lives.

Swimming lessons are on the agenda at Sunshine Leisure Centre during the summer holidays to help children get used to being back in the pool.

With lockdowns over the past two years limiting access to pools, many children have been deprived of water safety programs.

VICSWIM Summer Kidz Program will run throughout January to help recover lost swimming skills and prevent drownings this summer.

The statewide program aims to reach every local government area (LGA) in Victoria to avoid any children missing out on lapsed water safety initiatives and has been made affordable due to state government funding.

The program is held over the first three weeks of January, with each week consisting of five 30-minute lessons from Monday to Friday.

Louisa’s daughter has previously been part of the program and said it helped her daughter’s swimming.

“The lessons were well structured and time was utilised very well. My daughter’s swimming skills and confidence improved greatly over the week,” Louisa said.
