Sunshine’s Hampshire Road Civic Green has been awarded the 2022 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) Award for Civic Landscape.

The Civic Green that was completed last year has reinvigorated the previously car and concrete dense outlook of Sunshine’s main street, Hampshire Road.

Brimbank mayor Jasmine Nguyen said: “The improvements are encouraging people to think, shop, buy and dine locally.”

The project has upheld Brimbank council’s green streets initiative, which aims to have the streets of Brimbank take on a more climate mitigated approach when completing upgrades to the streets of the region.

“Creating attractive green open spaces is one of the key ways we’re helping to make Brimbank a better place to live and visit,” Cr Nguyen said.

The Civic Green is now a vibrant place where residents and families can spend time in the centre of Sunshine along the main shopping strip with a more appealing outlook.

The space was commended by the awards for its vibrant yet functional design that adds heavily to the character of Sunshine’s city centre.
