The next round of upgrades to transform the “heart” of Sunshine has begun.

With Hampshire Road having undergone significant redevelopment and beautification work in the past 12 months, Brimbank
mayor Margaret Giudice said the current upgrades would offer greater connectivity in the area.

“This stage will focus around the Service Street intersection – including integrating the much-loved

Man Lifting Cow statue into the new civic space,” she said.

“Works along Service Street will enhance connections between the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre, the Sunshine Leisure Centre and the multi-deck carpark.”

“It’s exciting to see the next stage of improvements to transform the heart of Sunshine begin.

“We’ve worked hard to make sure shops, restaurants and visitors can enjoy business as usual while we improve Hampshire Road,” she said. “While some disruptions will be unavoidable, we’ve committed to maintaining access to local businesses throughout business hours.

“For safety, part of the footpath (between the

Man Lifting Cow statue and Service Street) has been fenced off – but there’s still plenty of room for pedestrians and people with prams or mobility aids.”

The upgrades are expected to be completed by mid-2018.

Further works are set for Hampshire Road between Hertford and Ballarat roads, while future upgrades will include a new civic green between Devonshire Road and Bennett Place.
