More than 150 people are expected to join the chorus at Sunshine Presbyterian Church’s carols by candlelight this Saturday.

Event director Esther Cho said the church has hosted a carols by candlelight event for more than 10 years.

Ms Cho said the evening draws a large cross section of the local neighbourhood.

“It’s very representative of the multiculturalism in Brimbank,” she said.

“There’s a really harmonious quality to it … it’s a very community centred event – everyone is welcome.”

Proceedings will start at 6pm with a free spit roast and sausage sizzle in the church gardens. At 7.30pm, it’ll be time for the candle-lit carols sing-a-long.

The church has been a fixture of the Sunshine community for 90 years. Hugh Victor McKay laid its foundation stone just days before his death in 1926. The staunch Presbyterian commissioned the church as a gift to Sunshine.
