Peter Zaharopoulos says he likes gardening more than anything else.

And the 76-year-old pensioner appears to have a knack for his hobby – either that or the soil at his Sunshine North home is unusually nutrient rich.

For the second time within three years Mr Zaharapoulos has reaped a giant harvest, including this whopping 15 kilogram beauty (pictured, above).

He says the vegetable, which belongs to the same plant family as pumpkins and other squashes, is a type of zucchini commonly grown in Cyprus.

“I planted the seeds about three years ago,” he says.

The father of three and grandfather of one, who migrated from Greece 53 years ago, says his wife, Effie, will cook the vegetable to complement a roast lamb.
