Sunshine Hospital feeling local generosity

Sunshine Hospital will receive brand new equipment thanks to a newly formed philanthropist group in the west, ‘Women for Western Health Giving Circle.’

The equipment will assist in diagnosing and reducing the risks associated with birth-related tears and minimise long-term complications.

Dr Oliver Daly, Head of Urogynaecology at Western Health applied for the grant and brought to light a patient’s personal and distressing experience following childbirth, where new mother Fiona experienced a severe tear. Fiona suffered for some time and experienced long-term complications as a result, if this new equipment was available at the time Dr Daly said it could have helped her case.

“This grant means that we will be able to purchase the equipment immediately to help more than 150 patients each year, like Fiona, who experience severe tears during childbirth at Sunshine Hospital. Thank you to the Women for Western Health Giving Circle members and the Western Health Foundation for their support,” said Dr Oliver Daly.

The ‘Women for Western Health Giving Circle’ intends to continue their generosity into the future, “The Giving Circle is a trailblazing new way to give back to the community,” said Julia Harper, Western Health Foundation Director.
