Sunshine factory fire deemed suspicious

Thirty-one firefighters fought a major factory fire in Sunshine late Wednesday night, which caused extensive damage to the building and to nearby power lines.

Police have deemed the fire as suspicious and will investigate the incident.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to the blaze at First Avenue at 11.25pm on July 2, escalating the response on arrival.

The fire was under control within 30 minutes.

The front wall of the single-storey brick building had collapsed, bringing down power lines which were then isolated.

A building surveyor also attended due to concerns of further building collapse.

Parts of the building were significantly damaged while others were affected by smoke and water.

Paramedics were on scene to monitor firefighter health and police attended in support of FRV operations.
