Train commuters at Sunshine station will be asked to sign a white ribbon on Friday morning.

Friday is White Ribbon Day, an event held every year to raise awareness about, and funds for, initiatives to end men’s violence against women.

Sunshine Business Association (SBA) will host a free breakfast barbecue in the station forecourt from 7am until 9am, asking passers-by to sign ribbons that will then be tied to the station’s walkway.

SBA president Carson Luk, pictured with daughter Heather, said the association wants to reinforce the message that violence against women is unacceptable.

“Violence against women is never a private issue. We are holding this event to help break the silence around violence, to raise awareness … as well as funds, to support work to bring violence against women to an end,” he said.

“And the women lost are not just statistics – they are wives, mothers, daughters, granddaughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, friends and colleagues.”
