Trains are back on track between Sunbury and Sunshine from next Tuesday.
Buses have replaced trains since October 4 because of level crossing works at Main Road and Furlong Road, St Albans.
October’s wet and wild weather delayed the reopening of the line, and new train stations at St Albans and Ginifer, by just one day.
Level Crossing Removal Authority chief executive Kevin Devlin said most of the works will be completed by this Sunday.
“However, the Monday before Cup Day will now be needed to conduct essential rail systems commissioning and safety testing before the rail line can re-open,” he said.
“We acknowledge this is an inconvenience to passengers, who are no doubt looking forward to trains returning.
“However, the benefit will be making sure that the track and stations operate as efficiently, effectively and safely as they should from day one.”
Trains will run under Main and Furlong roads when the Sunbury Line reopens next week.
