Caroline Chisholm Catholic College’s Damian Bernardo will be among the excited spectators as the school’s students return to the stage.
Mr Bernardo, the college’s head of learning for performing arts, said it had been a long 18 months for students since they were last able to put on a show.
He said while many of the students were able to do some performance work through online and video during the coronavirus pandemic, it wasn’t the same as being on stage.
“We are so excited to be putting on a show again,” he said.
“We’re excited to be back so the community can see our students’ amazing work. They missed out on the relationships and connections that are normally developed.”
Mr Bernardo said year 11 and 12 students had been working hard the past few weeks ahead of the school’s first performance next week, a drama showcase.
“We’ve had two artists working with the students over a six week period,” he said.
“We wanted to bridge the gap and build skills and confidence back up.
“We’ve chosen some more challenging subject matters they can delve into.”
The college has also announced the return of the College Musical in 2021.
Mr Bernardo said they would perform Footloose, which they had been working on before COVID-19.
“We wanted to pick the show up again,” he said. “All the students are continuing their roles, with new students coming in to replace students who are no longer at the school.”
