The Sunshine Street Band is running jam sessions – and everyone is invited.

The band will offer two free drumming workshops at the St Albans Community Centre on Saturday, August 18.

Sunshine Street Band member Peter Hinton said the event was an opportunity to give anyone who might be interested in an ensemble the chance to play.

“It’ll be designed for people of all skill levels and we’ll start off with some pretty easy beats, which should then turn into a bit of a jam session,” he said.

“There are two ways people can enjoy music – one is listening and the other is playing. This is aimed at the people who want to try their hand at playing.”

Mr Hinton said drumming workshops were a natural progression for the band.

“We’ve done singing and instrumental workshops and now we’re doing percussion, so we’re covering all bases,” he said.

The workshops will take place at 1pm and 3pm. Djembes and assorted hand drums will be supplied.

“The workshops will be led by tutor Annie Fletcher from Drum Connections, who is a whole heap of fun, so it should be a great day,” Mr Hinton said.

“There’s no need to reserve a spot – people can simply arrive on the day.”
