The Force was with patients in the children’s ward at Sunshine Hospital on Friday when they received a visit from some notable Star Wars characters.
Storm troopers were patrolling the corridors to help promote the upcoming WalkWest event to help raise money for the Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital – the iconic foot soldiers will also be on hand at the walk along the Maribyrnong River on March 25.
Western Health Foundation director Julia White said it was shaping up as their biggest yet.
“WalkWest is a fantastic day out for the whole family,” she said. “There will be great entertainment and activities in the WalkWest Village for all ages to enjoy, and the opportunity to take in the beautiful views along the Maribyrnong River on our two-kilometre, 5-kilometre and 10-kilometre courses.
“It is also a great way to support women’s and children’s healthcare in the west.
“The new hospital will enable more local women and families to access maternity and children’s services closer to home.”
More than 1000 participants are expected to take part in the fun run which will kick-off from Footscray Park and wind its way along the Maribyrnong River.
The WalkWest Village will feature food and drinks, music and dance performers, children’s activities and post-race massages.
