Work is underway at Watergardens station to extend platforms to fit bigger, more modern trains and improve accessibility.

Wheelchair boarding platforms are being installed and the train stabling yard at Watergardens station expanded to allow more services to start and terminate there.

The existing train stabling yard is currently enclosed by an active rail track and the expansion will require track realignment to create space while the existing rail bridge crossing over the Sydenham Drain will also need modification.

Rail Projects Victoria warned that the works could create noise, dust and vibration typical of a construction site.

With construction taking place in the rail corridor, there will be some unavoidable disruption to rail services so work can be undertaken safely

Bus replacement services will be provided during any planned disruptions.

Works are scheduled for completion in mid-2021 with a temporary site compound operating between Victoria Road and Darlington Grove in Sydenham.
