Premier Daniel Andrews’ second state budget has delivered for north west schools and hospitals.
About $200 million will be invested in the Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital at Sunshine Hospital.
More than $61 million will go towards Footscray and Sunshine hospitals. Of that sum, Sunshine Hospital will receive about $44 million.
Western Health’s chief executive, Associate Professor Alex Cockram, described the funding as “fantastic news” for patients living in Melbourne’s western suburbs.
He said the funding would allow Western Health to add another 64 beds to Sunshine Hospital, among other upgrades.
Meanwhile Sunshine College will receive almost $10 million to upgrade school buildings and another$4.588 million to complete ongoing works, while Sunshine Special Development School has been earmarked to receive $2.5 million for similar upgrades.
Just outside of Brimbank, $12 million has been allocated to build a secondary school in Taylors Hill and the Melton railway line will be duplicated between Deer Park West and Melton.
