Brimbank and North West Star Weekly won an award for overall newspaper excellence at the Victorian Country Press Association awards.

The annual awards were held on Friday, November 11, with Brimbank and North West Star Weekly picking up the Overall Newspaper Excellence Award (over 6000 circulation).

The award was judged by Deakin University’s Alison McAdam and Kristy Hess, who commended Star Weekly for being a “well-rounded publication”.

“… Content is king and sometimes it doesn’t matter how slick a newspaper might look, it’s the quality of information that truly stands out,” they said.

“The Brimbank Star Weekly has demonstrated conviction across all aspects of reporting, from a community safety campaign to supporting a business destroyed by fire.

“Excellent photography and solid advertising make this a well-rounded publication.”

Overall, the Star News Group picked up three gongs at the awards, with the Dandenong Star Journal winning the Best Community Campaign Award (over 6000 circulation) and the Mountain Views Star Mail winning the Best Print Ad Award (2000-6000 circulation).
