Stamp of approval for collection

Dr Greg Moore looks over his collection.

Postage stamps and sustainable gardening may seem worlds apart, but this month they’re coming together.

August is Stamp Collecting Month and for this year’s theme Australia Post has selected sustainable gardening.

For Kealba local Dr Greg Moore OAM it’s a match made in heaven.

Dr Moore is a horticulturist with more than 30 years of leadership service and also an avid stamp collector.

He said it was a thrill to see two of his passions come together.

“I love the idea of stamps related to sustainable gardens and the fact that Australia Post has chosen sustainable gardening for this year’s Stamp Collecting Month theme also suggests that sustainability is becoming part of the mainstream of our society,” he said.

“I would hope that all of us are keen to leave a legacy of a better world for coming generations. Every little bit helps and Australia Post has helped make this part of gardening of interest to a wider audience.”

Dr Moore said each stamp has a story.

“I like the art of stamps, but I also like the way that they connect you with places, events or specific interests. I collect stamps for fun, but also to remind me of events, places, trees and wildlife that have been important to me,” he said.

“Although they are small, stamps tell such interesting and detailed stories.”

The In the Garden stamps and associated products are available in participating post offices, via mail order or online at www.auspost.com.au/stamps while stocks last.
