A staff member at Keilor Downs Secondary College has tested positive for COVID-19.

The news comes as prep to year 2, year 11 and 12 and specialist schools students across the state return to the classroom following weeks of remote learning.

College principal Linda Maxwell said while news of the teacher’s result was concerning, there was no further risk to those returning to school.

“They [the teacher] have not been at school at all during this time so there is no action required at school,” she said.

“We have not been asked to close for cleaning and there are no contacts at school.”

Ms Maxwell said it was her understanding that the staff member had acquired the virus via community transmission, but implored the school’s community to remain calm.

“I really need your support to keep things calm and to ensure that students still feel confident to return to face-to-face teaching.”

The teacher returned the positive result last Friday as part of the state’s testing blitz.
