St Albans residents relocated due to noisy level crossing works

Nearly 20 residents have moved to Caroline Springs to avoid round the clock works at Ginifer and St Albans train stations.

Nearly 20 St Albans households have been relocated to Quest apartments at Caroline Springs as noisy level crossing removal works ramp up this month.

The crossing upgrades have had unavoidable noise, vibration and lighting impacts on residents who live nearby.

Residents from 18 households have decamped as crews work around the clock to have both the Ginifer and St Albans train stations fully operational by October 31.

The Sunbury line has been closed between Sunbury and Sunshine since October 4 because of the works.

Meanwhile, patients at Sunshine Hospital will have greater access to public transport once the new Ginifer train station is built.

The new station site is about 200 metres closer to the hospital than the former station.

On a tour of the revamped St Albans’ train station last Tuesday,

Star Weekly discovered Ginifer will be located further south-east along the Sunbury line, at Furlong Road.

The station revamp includes 350 car spaces at Ginifer, 110 more than the old station, and a new walking and cycling path connecting it to St Albans station.

While works will not be completed until the middle of next year, they will include a 700 square-metre, seven-store retail hub at St Albans station.

St Albans will also feature two new bridge crossings, either side of the new station.

When services return, trains will travel under Main and Furlong roads.
