Lockdowns and the pandemic couldn’t stop Brookside P-9 College from hosting its annual R U OK? event.

The college decided to wait until students were back in the classroom, to hold a number of events and presentations about the important topic of mental health.

College wellbeing team member Krissy Martin said this year they decided to spread the activities throughout the whole week.

“We normally celebrate it on September 9, but unfortunately due to COVID we had to postpone things.

“We look to take care of the staff as well as the students. We normally do classroom based activities taken from the organisation.”

A number of presentations given by outside organisations occurred throughout the week talking about mental health and R U OK? day.

The school had an art competition, with the winning pieces displayed in the library full of positive messages.

Teachers were looked after with breakfast and afternoon tea, with the Lions Club providing the meals and the money donated to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

The week was capped off with a whole school celebration on Friday.

Ms Martin said the whole school community got involved with the day.
