Sporting gift for bushfire victims

Sports clubs in fire-affected communities won’t go without if Keilor East man Michael Gallus has anything to do with it.

Mr Gallus, the founder of charitable organisation Footys4All, has established a fundraiser to purchase footballs and netballs for those in need.

“A $15 donation buys a ball, the hope is to raise about $4500 to get about 300 balls,” Mr Gallus said.

“We’ll evenly distribute footballs and netballs to the clubs that need them most.” First on Mr Gallus’ list is the Buchan Football Netball Club.

“Buchan was hit pretty hard by the fires earlier in the year, but fortunately the club was saved.

“It’s a good place for the community to work together to get through this tough time.

“We’ll be going down on Saturday, March 14 during their match with Kinglake to distribute them.”

He hopes Buchan is the first of many clubs he can help.

“There’s Omeo, Swifts Creek and a couple of others in that area that we’d like to help out too,” he said.

“Every appeal is a good appeal, this one gives us an opportunity to show the kids people are thinking of them.

“Every time they pick up the ball they’ll know people across the state are thinking about them and supporting them to get through.”
