Residents in the Brimbank have raised concerns surrounding the amount of public sporting facilities available to them, saying more need to open for public use.
The issue was raised in last month’s council meeting where councilors mentioned tennis courts as a major part of the issue.
Brimbank council’s Director of Community Wellbeing Lynley Dumble assures that the Brimbank municipality has many sporting facilities available to the community for use, particularly through community sporting clubs.
“Many of Brimbank Sporting Clubs are allocated sporting facilities as part of Lease, Licence or Seasonal agreements with Council, which are accessible by the broader community to actively use these to play sport,” Ms Dumble said.
“Many sportsgrounds when they are not being used for community sports are open and accessible for the community to use.
“Council also has a range of casual sports facilities around the municipality to cater for informal participation in sport, eg. Half-Court Basketball, multi-purpose sports courts for Soccer, Basketball and Netball in local parks and reserves.”
Ms Dumble also said tennis courts were available for casual use across six tennis clubs in Brimbank.
“Access to tennis court facilities are also available to the broader community, which are available at our Brimbank tennis club sites,” she said.
“Council has worked in partnership with Tennis Victoria and six local tennis clubs to implement the Book A Court system, which allows the community to casually book and use tennis courts via the online system.
“The Court bookings are managed by the tennis clubs where the participants receive a pin code to enter the facility. This system reduces the burden on volunteers to open up and provides easier access for the community.
“The following tennis clubs allow community access at Green Gully TC, Sunshine Park TC, Albion TC, Delahey TC, Keilor Park TC and St Albans East TC.
“Please check the specific Tennis club websites to book a court.”
