Brimbank council has received a grant of more than $81,000 towards a number of council’s sporting pavilions.

As part of the second round of Sustainability Victoria’s Climate Change and Energy Action program, the council received $81,928 towards the replacement of gas heating with a ducted and split system reverse cycle air conditioning system at the St Albans Saints Dinamo Soccer Club and solar installations at McKechnie Reserve Pavilion (23.4 kW), Ainsworth Reserve Pavilion (12.5 kW) and Keilor Sports Pavilion (12.5 kW).

Brimbank mayor Jasmine Nguyen said council has welcomed the grants, which will boost its Solar Sports program.

“The grant will now help more local sports clubs using council’s sporting facilities to save money on their energy bills, and support Council’s goal to make Brimbank’s environment cleaner, greener, cooler and healthier for generations to come,” she said.

Energy, Environment and Climate Action Minister Lily D’Ambrosio said the funding would help community groups across the state reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by more than 4400 tonnes a year towards the state government’s goal of cutting Victoria’s emissions in half by 2030.

“We’re giving community groups like kindergartens, sports clubs and cultural groups the opportunity to reduce their energy costs by upgrading their facilities with simple switches which save money and slash emissions,” she said.
