Helping Hoops set for Summer Slam

Youngsters from refugee or migrant backgrounds will unite in their passion for basketball later this week at a summer tournament.

Helping Hoops, a free Sunshine multicultural basketball clinic, aims to empower players by giving them purpose, motivation and a chance to shoot for the stars.

It will send players to the South Sudanese Australian National Basketball Association’s Summer Slam tournament, in Frankston from December 18 to 20.

More than 40 teams and 400 players are expected to compete.

Helping Hoops runs free weekly programs for more than 1000 children, aged from six to 24.
