Even a pandemic wasn’t going to stop the Sunshine Golden Age Garden Club from hosting their 100th autumn annual show.
With last year’s show held two days before the first pandemic lockdown, the club was eager to ensure this year’s event took place.
President Chris Michalopoulos said it would be a special day.
“We are celebrating our 100th birthday,” he said.
“We’ve had a show every year since we were founded in 1921. To be able to get some normality and celebrate with the community… is really good.
“It’s a momentous occasion and a happy occasion.”
Mr Michalopoulos said there weren’t many gardening clubs that had been around for 100 years.
The group has members from 26 different nationalities and with a membership fee of just $2 a year, the group is also very affordable.
Mr Michalopoulos said this year’s show would provide something for everyone.
He said the show wouldn’t have gone ahead without the support of the Brimbank council and sponsors.
“We have the nicest flowers,” he said. “There’s vegetables, herbs, fruit, cooking, hand craft and a children’s section.
“Everyone is welcome and it’s totally free. It’s our gift back to the community.”
The show is on between 11am and 4pm this Saturday at the Glengala Community Hall.
A a cake cutting ceremony will be held about 12.30pm.
