Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident on Glengala Road in Sunshine West this morning following multiple calls to Triple-0.
Firefighters arrived within four minutes at 5.52am to find a hardware shop alight, with the fire approximately 20m x 50m.
FRV said with neighbouring properties under threat, an escalated response was initiated.
Firefighters acted quickly to evacuate accommodation above the premises.
Crews in breathing apparatus, supported by two aerial fire trucks, attacked the fire and the incident was declared under control at 7.40am.
A community advice notice has been issued for smoke in the area.
